Apple has confirmed the Apple Intelligence China launch. Beta testing starts November 4 with the latest iOS developer beta, and the features will reach users in mainland China in December with iOS 27.3. Apple worked with Alibaba to bring its Qwen model into several features, including Siri, Writing Tools and Visual Intelligence.
Launch Timeline
- November 4, 2026: beta testing begins with the iOS developer beta.
- December 2026: public rollout with iOS 27.3.
- Later: other Apple platforms will follow after the necessary approvals.
How Alibaba’s Qwen Fits In
Qwen powers selected Apple Intelligence features in China, including Siri, Writing Tools and Visual Intelligence. Users can access Qwen by logging into a Qwen account or by signing in with Apple. Qwen also powers a new Creation option inside system-wide Writing Tools. Reports say Alibaba committed not to train on user data.
Features Coming to China
The first wave includes a long list of Apple Intelligence features:
- Live Translation in Messages, FaceTime and Phone, plus in-person translation with supported AirPods
- Writing Tools, Visual Intelligence and Clean Up in Photos
- Genmoji, natural-language photo search and Memory Movies
- Priority Mail, Mail summaries, Smart Replies and notification summaries
- Priority Notifications and a Reduce Interruptions Focus mode
- Audio and call transcript summaries, and Type to Siri
Supported Devices and Languages
The features work on iPhone 16 and later, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone Air. For the core features and AirPods Live Translation, Siri and the device language must be set to English or Simplified Chinese.
What’s Not Included
Apple says this update does not include the more advanced Siri AI or the other next-generation Apple Intelligence features announced at WWDC 2026. In other markets, Apple has been testing a new Siri powered by Google Gemini.
Why It Matters
China is one of Apple’s biggest markets, and Apple Intelligence has been missing there since launch. Partnering with a local model provider lets Apple meet local rules while offering AI features. For marketers, it means more AI-generated summaries and assistants sitting between brands and users, a trend we’re also seeing in search as AI Overviews spread and AI search queries get longer.
Key Takeaways

- Alibaba’s Qwen powers Siri, Writing Tools and Visual Intelligence features.
